MAGECŪ Software Products
What is MAGEC?
MAGEC is a COBOL-based rapid application development environment. It can be used to generate both text-based and GUI applications that run on a wide variety of computing platforms. Its main components are an active repository, a universal access I/O module, an on-line screen painter, a comprehensive set of automated programming tools, a print spooler system, and an application security system.
What can MAGEC do?
MAGEC generates on-line database processing applications which operate identically on IBM mainframe and desktop computers. MAGEC applications can process data in any database, regardless of where the data is physically located, and regardless of whether the data is ASCII or EBCDIC, character, packed or binary.
- MAGEC applications can access and update mainframe databases (VSAM, CA-Datacom/DB, IMS-DB, DB/2, SQL/DS) and PC-LAN distributed databases, regardless of which platform the application is run from.
- MAGEC applications developed in one operating environment can be ported without change to any other MAGEC-supported environment.
- The MAGEC development environment, and MAGEC-generated applications can be run on MVS and VSE CICS sytems as well as on Microsoft DOS/Windows personal computers.
How is MAGEC Packaged?
There are many possible configurations for a MAGEC system, depending on the customer's operating environment, and how much flexibility the customer wants for connecting users with applications, both immediately and in the future. There are six major starting points, most of which have additional options.
- MVS MAGEC -
Supports MVS COBOL CICS application development. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using VSAM and IMS/DB databases. Options: DB/2 Interface, MVS/SQL Interface, MVS/Datacom DB Interface, and the MVS TCP/IP Interface. As their names imply, the options permit use of MAGEC with other databases or across a TCP/IP network.
-
VSE MAGEC -
Supports VSE COBOL CICS application development. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using VSAM databases. Options: VSE/SQL Interface, VSE/Datacom DB Interface, and the VSE TCP/IP Interface. As their names imply, the options permit use of MAGEC with other databases or across a TCP/IP network.
-
GUI MAGEC for Windows -
Supports Micro Focus COBOL application development on DOS/Windows PCs. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using PC database files and graphical user interface (GUI) data entry screens. Licensing is based on number of users. Option: GUI MAGEC TCP/IP Interface option which permits access to databases across a TCP/IP network connection.
-
Client/Server MAGEC -
Supports Micro Focus COBOL application development on DOS/Windows PCs. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using PC database files and text-mode data entry screens. Licensing is based on number of users.
- PC MAGEC for DOS & Windows -
Supports Micro Focus COBOL application development on DOS/Windows PCs. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using PC database files and text-mode data entry screens for one user. Option: TCP/IP Interface that permits access to network databases across a TCP/IP connection.
-
GUI PC MAGEC for DOS & Windows -
Supports Micro Focus COBOL application development on DOS/Windows PCs. It includes support for on-line and batch program development, using PC database files and graphical user interface (GUI) data entry screens for one user.
